Privacy Policy

Effective and last updated: August 27, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how 1318912 B.C. Ltd., doing business as Northshield Security (“Northshield,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, discloses, retains, and protects personal information in connection with our Canadian business operations, website, product inquiries, sales, installation coordination, customer service, account administration, and related security and smart-home services.

1. Scope and accountability

We manage personal information in accordance with applicable Canadian private-sector privacy laws, including British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (“PIPA”) and, where applicable, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (“PIPEDA”). We are responsible for personal information under our control and have designated a Privacy Officer to oversee compliance with this Policy.

This Policy applies to customers, prospective customers, website visitors, authorized account users, contractors, job applicants, dealers, and other individuals whose personal information we handle in Canada. It does not apply to information that has been anonymized so that it can no longer reasonably identify an individual.

2. Personal information we collect

Depending on your relationship with us, we may collect:

  • identity and contact information, such as name, address, telephone number, email address, date of birth, and government-issued identification where reasonably required;
  • property and service information, such as service address, property type, system configuration, equipment, installation details, emergency contacts, authorized users, access instructions, and service history;
  • transaction and account information, such as quotes, agreements, invoices, payment status, billing details, and records of customer communications;
  • credit and identity-verification information, including information supplied in a credit application or consent form and information received from a consumer reporting agency;
  • technical and website information, such as IP address, browser or device information, pages visited, and cookie data where these technologies are used;
  • communications and records you provide through telephone, email, text message, website inquiries, WhatsApp, WeChat, or in person; and
  • business, employment, licensing, and background information provided by applicants, sales representatives, contractors, technicians, or prospective dealers.

We collect personal information directly from you and, with your consent or as otherwise permitted by law, from authorized representatives, consumer reporting agencies, service providers, dealers, installers, monitoring or platform providers, payment providers, public records, and other lawful sources. We limit collection to information reasonably necessary for identified purposes.

3. How we use personal information

We may use personal information to:

  • respond to inquiries, provide product information, prepare quotes, and determine service eligibility;
  • verify identity, conduct fraud and risk checks, and assess creditworthiness where financing, deferred payment, subsidized equipment, or ongoing services are requested;
  • establish, administer, bill, service, support, renew, transfer, or close an account;
  • coordinate equipment supply, installation, activation, monitoring, warranty, technical support, and customer care;
  • process payments, collect amounts owing, prevent loss, and enforce agreements;
  • communicate service, safety, account, legal, or security-related information;
  • maintain and improve our operations, products, service quality, website, training, security, and recordkeeping;
  • evaluate applicants, contractors, sales representatives, technicians, and dealer relationships; and
  • meet legal, regulatory, licensing, audit, insurance, and compliance obligations.

We will identify any new purpose and obtain additional consent where required before using personal information for that new purpose.

4. Consumer reports and TransUnion

Credit-check notice: When reasonably required to assess an application or manage credit risk, and after obtaining the consent required by law, Northshield may request, obtain, use, and retain a consumer or credit report and related information from TransUnion of Canada, Inc. or another consumer reporting agency.

A consumer report may include identity-verification information, credit history, payment history, outstanding obligations, public-record information, credit scores, and other information permitted by applicable law. We use this information to verify identity, assess creditworthiness and service eligibility, prevent fraud, administer the account, and manage financial risk.

We do not obtain a consumer report solely because you visit our website or request general product information. Where express consent is required, the credit application or consent form will explain the nature and purposes of the check. Declining or withdrawing consent may mean that we cannot offer products or services that require a credit assessment, financing, subsidized equipment, or post-paid billing. To dispute information in a TransUnion credit file, you may also contact TransUnion directly.

5. How we disclose personal information

We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information, only as reasonably necessary and subject to appropriate protections, to:

  • security equipment, software, smart-home platform, monitoring, installation, technical support, warranty, shipping, and customer-service providers;
  • consumer reporting agencies, identity-verification providers, payment processors, financial institutions, collection agencies, insurers, professional advisers, auditors, and fraud-prevention providers;
  • authorized dealers, contractors, technicians, representatives, affiliates, or business partners involved in delivering or supporting the requested products or services;
  • government, regulatory, law-enforcement, court, emergency, or other authorities where disclosure is required or permitted by law, or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, property, or security; and
  • a prospective purchaser, successor, or other party to a proposed or completed business transaction, subject to applicable legal safeguards.

Some service providers may process or store information outside British Columbia or Canada. In those circumstances, information may be subject to the laws and lawful-access requirements of the jurisdiction where it is processed. We use contractual, administrative, and technical measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the information and the services involved.

We obtain consent that is appropriate to the sensitivity of the information and the reasonable expectations of the individual. Consent may be express or implied, except where applicable law requires express consent. You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice, by contacting our Privacy Officer. We will explain the consequences of withdrawal, which may include our inability to provide or continue certain products or services.

Marketing communications may be declined using the unsubscribe method provided or by contacting us. You will continue to receive necessary transactional, account, safety, legal, or service messages.

7. Safeguards

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity, amount, format, and location of personal information. These may include role-based and need-to-know access, confidentiality obligations, staff training, vendor controls, authentication and password practices, secure transmission or storage where appropriate, locked physical storage, secure disposal, incident-response procedures, and periodic review of our practices.

No system is completely secure. If a privacy or security incident occurs, we will investigate, contain, document, and provide notifications to affected individuals and privacy regulators where required by law.

8. Retention and disposal

We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the identified purposes, to maintain appropriate business and transaction records, to permit access to information used to make a decision, and to satisfy legal, regulatory, tax, insurance, contractual, limitation-period, and dispute-resolution requirements. Retention periods vary by record type and circumstance. When information is no longer required, we securely destroy, erase, or anonymize it.

9. Access, correction, and complaints

You may request access to personal information under our control, information about how it has been used and disclosed, or correction of inaccurate or incomplete information. We may need to verify your identity before responding. Access may be limited where permitted or required by law, including where disclosure would reveal another person’s personal information, confidential commercial information, or information protected by legal privilege. We will explain any lawful refusal.

You may also submit a privacy question or complaint to our Privacy Officer. We will investigate and respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia or, where applicable, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

10. Website, cookies, and third-party services

Our website may automatically receive basic technical information needed to deliver, secure, and maintain the site. Where we use cookies or similar technologies, they may support site operation, remember preferences, measure performance, or help us understand site use. You may adjust browser settings to block certain cookies, although parts of the site may not function as intended.

Our site may link to or facilitate communication through third-party services such as email, WhatsApp, WeChat, Alarm.com, or other websites and platforms. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. Information that you choose to send through a third-party service is also subject to that service’s terms and privacy practices.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in our practices, services, or legal obligations. The current version will be posted on our website with the effective or last-updated date. Where a change is material, we will provide additional notice or obtain new consent where required by law.
